Bottled Happiness Sea Glass Shaker Card & Demo

Friends, we're in the middle of an autumn heat wave here, so I'm thinking beach thoughts. Ah, bliss!

Today I have another shaker card to share, this time using beach glass. (If you missed yesterday's shaker card, featuring Lake Simcoe sand, find it here.)

I'm working with bona fide sea glass that I picked up here, along the shores of southwestern New Brunswick. My sea glass comes from 3 different locations: White Head Island (near Grand Manan), New River Beach (where I grew up & also a provincial park), and Blacks Harbour (where I went to Middle School).

Here's my card:

I'll include a clickable photo supply list at the end of this post.

To make this card, I started by cutting a 2" x 4" piece of Holographic Trio Specialty Paper, using the sheet of Starry Sky/Berry Burst. I cut a chevron into one end of it, then used the Vintage Bottle Punch to punch a bottle shape, angled down.

When I first saw the Holographic Trio Specialty Paper, I was intrigued - but I wondered, "What would I ever really use it for?" To my surprise (and delight - I love shine & sparkle!), it's become part of many projects. See other projects using this paper:

Here's the Holographic Trio Specialty paper itself:

With Pretty Peacock Ink, I stamped my sentiment from the Bottled Happiness Stamp Set onto a scrap of Wild Wheat Cardstock. I cut out the words with Paper Snips scissors.

Next, I layered onto a Kraft Note Card two 1/2" x 5" strips of More Dazzle Specialty Paper (Gold), each one 1/4" from the edge of the card. I adhered a 2 1/2" x 5" panel of Fresh as a Daisy DSP over the card base.

To assemble the bottle, I flipped the Vintage Bottle Shaker Dome onto its back, so it was open on top, and placed pieces of sea glass inside. I peeled off the adhesive backing from the open side of the bottle dome, then stuck a 1 1/2" x 3" Distressed Gold Specialty Paper scrap to it, gold side down. Tip: Ensure that the paper covers the entire dome and all of its edges, so the glass will not escape.

The Distressed Gold adds a bit of bling, yet the distressed finish suggests the earthiness of a sandy beach. This lovely paper has just come back into stock. (Hooray!)

Next, I flipped over the dome onto its front. I peeled off the adhesive coating from the front of the dome and adhered the Holographic Trio Specialty Paper with the bottle-shaped hole in it securely around the dome. I then added the dome to the card.

To finish the card, I used Stampin' Dimensionals™ to attach the sentiment. I embellished with more sea glass, to emphasize the sentiment by  "overflowing" the glass from the bottle.
