Home for the Holidays Watercolour Card

Friends, today I have another Christmas in July card for you. Spoiler Alert: I'll be using Water Painters & Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper!

Today's card is one of 3 in this month's FREE Card Class by Mail! Receive the pre-cut pieces to make them when you place a qualifying order with me in July. (Min. $60 before shipping/tax)

In honour of my July birthday, I'm celebrating the holidays all month! There will be holiday card designs in all my blog & social media posts thru July 31.

Here's today's card:

My card is the 3rd one I've posted this week that's made with the same stamp set. It's from Home for the Holidays, a terrific past Paper Pumpkin kit that's available at a discount while supplies last.

Missed my previous cards using this kit's stamps? Find them here:

Here's a look at the Home for the Holidays Kit:

To make this card, I started by using Stylish Shapes Dies (my favourite die set!) to cut:
  • a long label from Very Vanilla Cardstock
  • a long label from Mossy Meadow Cardstock
  • a large square from Mossy Meadow Cardstock
  • a slightly smaller square from Very Vanilla Cardstock

Next, I stamped:

  • my sentiment from the Home for the Holidays kit in Cherry Cobbler Ink onto the Very Vanilla label
  • two large trees and one small tree in Old Olive Ink onto a scrap of Very Vanilla Cardstock
  • the house in StazOn Ink onto a small piece of Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper
Tip for StazOn Ink: the Simply Shammy or baby wipes will not clean this ink, due to its formulation. To clean the stamp, you'll need the StazOn Cleaner. More info about it and how to use it are available on the Stampin' Up!®️ website. Without the cleaner, your stamp will turn black but will work as usual once dry. (I don't like to use chemicals, so I allow my stamps to stay black.)

Here's the StazOn Ink, which is the best choice when planning to use Water Painters or watercolour, as it does not run when combined with water:

To watercolour the house, I used ink pads, acrylic blocks, and Water Painters (finest brush tip). For each colour, I pressed the corner of an acrylic block onto the ink pad. Then I turned it over, released a few drops of water from the Water Painter onto the block, and used the Water Painter brush to make a watercolour wash.

With my fine-tipped Water Painter, I coloured:
  • door, window shutters, and wreath bows in Cherry Cobbler - I suggest starting with red, as it will readily bleed into neighbouring colours that are still wet, if it is added after them
  • wreaths & greenery on roof in Old Olive
  • house in Balmy Blue
  • roof in Copper Clay
I then used Paper Snips to cut out the house and trees.

I used Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper to stamp and colour the house, as it is ideally suited for absorbing water without warping. The colour is approximately the same as Very Vanilla. Here's what the paper looks like, coming in 5" x 7" textured, fibre-rich sheets:

To assemble, I began by adhering the squares together and the labels together. I also adhered a 3 1/2" x 4 3/4" piece of Traditions of St Nick DSP to a 3 3/4" x 5" panel of Very Vanilla Cardstock.

Then I used Stampin' Dimensionals™ to adhere the squares and labels to the panels, and the panels to a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" Old Olive Cardstock card base.

To finish, I embellished with the Adhesive-Backed Snowflake Assortment. These cool (pardon the pun!) embellishments came out as an Online Exclusive awhile back and are great for wintry projects:
