Friends Are Like Seashells Merry Christmas Card

Have you ever wondered if you could use year-round stamp sets you love to make holiday cards? All it takes is a little out-of-the-box thinking! Today's card is my holiday riff on one of my favourite sets: Friends Are Like Seashells. For the seashell embossing folder I posted yesterday, click here.

My colour palette includes Soft Succulent, Petal Pink, Soft Suede, and Mango Melody. I chose to use Soft Succulent and Petal Pink as my dominant colours, as they are tints of the traditional Christmas green and red.

To start, I cut a Basic White Cardstock label with Waves Dies. Then I stamped my sentiment (from the super-cute Christmas Scottie stamp set) on it in Soft Suede. Next, I used Basic White scraps to stamp my sand dollars and sea stars from the Friends Are Like Seashells stamp set, in Petal Pink, Soft Succulent, Mango Melody, and Sahara Sand. Then I cut them out with Seaside Seashells Dies.

For the embossed Soft Succulent 3 3/4" x 5" panel, I used the Seashells 3D Embossing Folder. Since the folder is in portrait (vertical) orientation and my panel was in landscape (horizontal) orientation, I had to run the panel through twice, to have the design come out right-side-up instead of sideways. I embossed the right half first and then the left. I also turned the embossing folder so that I fed it through the machine sideways, instead of inserting it fold-first as is the usual procedure.

I adhered my embossed panel to a 4" x 5 1/4" Soft Suede panel, then added a 1 3/4" x 5" panel of Texture Chic Specialty DSP. Next I fed a piece of Petal Pink Soft Polyester Ribbon through the ends of the label, securing it on the back of the panel with glue dots. Then I tied a bow and added it with a glue dot, too. (This super-soft ribbon is one of my absolute favourites from the Annual Catalogue for its lovely texture and ease of tying elegant-looking bows!) To finish the panel, I layered on my seashells, popping some up with dimensionals. The final step was to attach the whole card front to a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" Petal Pink card base.
