Season of Chic Autumn Card & Blog Hop

Warm greetings from southwestern New Brunswick, on the Atlantic coast of Canada!

I'm delighted to be participating in a blog hop today, involving talented demonstrators from the USA, Australia, and Canada. We're all members of the Inspirations in Ink group, where we create a monthly tutorial bundle (info on how to get your copy is at the end of this post) and this fabulous blog hop. Don't miss the links to everyone's projects toward the end of this post!

This month's tutorial bundle and blog hop feature the beautiful, shabby-chic-style Season of Chic bundle. Since I'm coming to you today from Canada's only officially bilingual province, I'm using the French version of the bundle, called Chics Saisons. My card for the tutorial bundle used products from the larger Texture Chic Suite. So this time, I decided to pair the bundle with different products from outside the suite.

To make the card, I started by stamping the sentiment in Real Red ink onto a scrap of Basic White Cardstock. I then cut a chevron shape into the left side. Next I worked on the pièce de résistance of the card: the two multicoloured leaves. I wanted to reflect the gorgeous variegated colours I've been seeing in the autumn leaves here in our neighbourhood.

For ink, I used Regals Stampin' Write Markers in Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Crushed Curry, and Garden Green, colouring directly on the stamp. I started by colouring the middle vein of each leaf in Garden Green, working slightly outward into the rest of the leaf. Then I overlapped the green with Crushed Curry and kept working toward the leaf's edges. Next I added some Pumpkin Pie, and I finished with Real Red along the leaf tips. Since this technique creates a slightly different result every time, each leaf's colouration is unique - just like the naturally occurring leaves outside my window. Once the leaves were coloured, I used the dies from the bundle to cut them out.

The rest of the card was a matter of die-cutting and assembly. First, I embossed a 4" x 5 1/4" Crumb Cake panel with the Tree Rings Hybrid Embossing Folder. Then I layered on a 3 1/4" x 4 1/2" piece of Rustic Harvest DSP in the oak leaf & acorn pattern. Next, I used Designer Tags Dies to cut a large label from vellum. I fed Gold 3/8" Shimmer Ribbon through the ends of the label, secured the label on the DSP with dimensionals, and attaching the ribbon to the back of the Crumb Cake cardstock with glue dots. Then I tied a knot through the ribbon on the front and attached the entire panel to a 4" x 5 1/4" Basic Black Cardstock card base.

To make the layered centre of the card, I used the Painted Labels Dies to cut out a small, fancy circle made from the gold foil pattern in Splendid Day Specialty DSP and a larger Real Red fancy circle. I next adhered the circles together, then layered on the sentiment with dimensionals. To finish the card, I added my two variegated leaves, popping up the top one with dimensionals.
