A Story of Saying Thank You

Friends, this year marks our 30th wedding anniversary - hooray!

Steve and I wanted to make sure to celebrate this milestone in style, so we've booked a trip to the Caribbean.

We've been to Central America but not the Caribbean, so this will be a fun new adventure. Our daughter is excited to visit her first country outside North America, too!

Since the trip came together quite quickly, we didn't have much time to organize the vaccinations recommended for our destination. To complicate matters, we haven't traveled outside North America for several years - and since then we've moved province twice. So I spent a rather rushed half day calling all over the country to track down the details of our last international vaccinations.

The nurse I talked with at one office in Ontario was stellar! She returned my call immediately, then she tracked down our records with amazing efficiency and sent them via email within minutes, at no charge!

Likewise, our local pharmacy was super-helpful, scheduling us in for Covid and flu vaccines at the last minute and saving us from having a long day of traveling to the city to find what we needed.

So I decided to express my thanks with some handmade cards. Here's the one that's going in the mail to Ontario:

When I called the Ontario health office to find out their postal address, the lady who answered the phone could scarcely believe I wanted to send a card to her colleague.

She was so surprised and pleased that she kept saying, "Oh!" And she asked, "An actual card??" I assured her it would go into the mail, and she was so incredibly pleased for the nurse who would receive it. I think it's the most enthusiastic reaction I've ever had for receiving a card - and the lady I spoke with wasn't even the recipient!

When we went to our vaccination appointment locally, I gave the card below to the lady who administered the injections. She also was very surprised and happy to receive it:

The moral of the story for me was - send more cards! Because they make a tremendous difference to those who receive them.

If you're anything like me, you may have boxes of handmade cards that you've enjoyed creating - but haven't found an occasion to send. What I learned was, let's send them and make someone's day!

I'd love to see the cards you're sending - and know that you're bringing a little more happy into someone's life. Please show & tell in the comments, so we can all be inspired!
